A group of children from the Dolphin group playing in the sandpit with plastic piping.
They are great pipes for the children to build with as there are different lengths and lots of joiners.
A wonderful example of co-operative play.
They were wanting to build a structure with the pipes but had trouble making it all stand up.
There was lots of talking, negotiating and problem solving happening.
it was decided that the pipes should be placed into some holes …
which took a lot of digging …
and tamping down of the sand …
building it up …
and connecting it together.
The children didn’t realise it but they were practising problem solving skills, developing social skills and taking turns to lead this play and share ideas. The boys were developing their dispositions for learning such as persistence and using lots of great communication skills. Next time we could add water or balls, we could use the pipes in another area and find another way for it to stand up.
